Finally, a decision

Hi, I'm back from the perfect vacation at the perfect time. I enjoyed the sun, the beach, kayaking, and never gave a thought to the other. Good thing, because when I got home and saw the Dr. at Penn, he of course identified the next step as radiation and chemo. When I asked if instead of doing that he would be willing to "follow me" - after all he can take a little scope and go up and look around quite easily - he said that he would, but would prefer that i have more surgery to remove the dura separating the sinus from the brain, go up and sample the brain and build a new dura. Then he would watch me monthly. After much hemming, hawing, talking with friends who have had cancer, a cancer coach, and an alternative cancer specialist, I have decided to go ahead with the proton radiation and cisplatin chemo for a 6 week period in Florida. Tom and I leave Sunday for a meeting with them on Wednesday. After a CAT scan, it will take them 2 weeks to get everything arranged and i will come back to Jacksonville and start the program. I will continue the juicing and supplements as i know they enhanced the chemo therapy and will work to my benefit again. We will take a little apartment near the hospital as I have to be there twice a day. BUT, the beauty of this is that I will be home for the birth of Julie's twins in July and Lara's baby girl in early August. Boy that ought to take my mind off everything!! They tell me the cisplatin is a mild dose compared to what i had before and the side effects of the radiation should be minimal. SO, off i go on the next leg of this journey. I have been so grateful to have you with me as I navigate these uncertainties and hope that you will stick with me through this too. I just feel so much safer knowing you're out there.......... Love you, MC

MC, the radiation with cisplatin, in split daily dose (with reduced cisplatin) is exactly what I had 4.5 years ago. It wasn't that bad. A bit tiring, but, hey, I'm with you on this leg of the trek, and what a bonus you get with the new kids in the family. Can't beat that!
