READY SET................

So I have a start date of may 19th for the 2 proton radiations each day and for good measure, and little added cost, they have thrown in standard radiation to the neck area. I'm hearing this might warrant a PEG (feeding tube) down the line because of a sore throat. The chemo will be weekly.

We found a wonderful 2 story 3 bedroom house to rent a five minute drive from the hospital. It's near a Y (have to work out) and close to a charming area of shops and restaurants. It's in a family neighborhood and perfectly safe for walk-abouts.

Thoughts, prayers, good wishes, just throw 'em at me, I'll use them all........as I'm a trifle apprehensive about what it will be like to do this treatment. love you, MC

So let me know when Kristen is planning to come to JAX and I'll plan accordingly. Today I'm thinking leaving here June 10 to spend a week or 10 days with you and maybe a couple of days with Nick and Gloria, returning to AK June 23. It will all depend on the airlines, of course. If that is when others are coming, just let me know.
We are all there with you and know that this last part of the protocol will go as well as the other two. Keep that positive faith in your heart.

The 3rd MRI results are in. The cancer is gone. You heard me. Packed up and left. Flew the coop. Tell it while you're walkin'. According to the radiologist and Dr. O'Malley, "there's no evidence of cancer." A PET scan will be done this Friday to confirm results of the MRI. While MC will still need proton radiation to ensure that no individual cancer cells remain, there will be no anterior craniotomies happenin' in this here family. Instead, MC will have outpatient endoscopic sinus surgery to take a few biopsies for safe measure and clean out her sinuses which, unrelated to the SNUC, have been clogged for years. Finally, a decision

Hi, I'm back from the perfect vacation at the perfect time. I enjoyed the sun, the beach, kayaking, and never gave a thought to the other. Good thing, because when I got home and saw the Dr. at Penn, he of course identified the next step as radiation and chemo. When I asked if instead of doing that he would be willing to "follow me" - after all he can take a little scope and go up and look around quite easily - he said that he would, but would prefer that i have more surgery to remove the dura separating the sinus from the brain, go up and sample the brain and build a new dura. Then he would watch me monthly. After much hemming, hawing, talking with friends who have had cancer, a cancer coach, and an alternative cancer specialist, I have decided to go ahead with the proton radiation and cisplatin chemo for a 6 week period in Florida.
